A new door is the largest moving object on your house and, in this part of the country, a structural decision as much as a cosmetic one.
This is the part most quotes skip, so we will be direct about it. In high wind the garage door is the largest opening in the building and the most likely thing to fail. When it does, the wind does not simply pass through. It pressurises the inside of the house, and that internal pressure pushing up on the roof while the wind pulls from outside is a recognised way roofs come off.
That is why wind-rated and reinforced doors exist, and why local techs raise the subject on every installation quote in this metro. A wind-rated door uses heavier gauge steel, more end and centre stiles, stronger track and hardware, and often a bracing system. It costs more. Whether that is worth it is your call, but you should be making it deliberately rather than discovering the option did not come up.
An R-value on a garage door does two things. It moderates the garage temperature, which matters if the space is a workshop, a gym, or shares a wall with a room people use. And it makes the door quieter and stiffer, because insulated doors are built as sandwich sections rather than single-skin steel.
In a Tulsa summer an uninsulated single-skin door turns an attached garage into an oven that leaks heat into the house all evening. The stiffness is the underrated half though: an insulated section resists hail denting better and flexes less in wind than the same door in single skin.
A garage door is not a standard-size product you simply order. The opening width and height, the headroom above the opening, the backroom depth into the garage and the side room beside the jambs all determine which track configuration is possible.
Low-headroom situations are common in older Tulsa garages, particularly Midtown houses where the garage was built for a much smaller car. Those need a specific low-headroom track and sometimes a different spring arrangement. Getting that wrong is how a door ends up scraping the header or never opening fully, and it is not something you can correct afterwards without new track.

On installation day the old door and track come out, the new system goes in, the springs are sized to the actual weight of the door you chose rather than a generic setting, and the door is balance-checked by hand.
The old door is hauled away. Local techs test the safety reversal, set the opener limits to the new door, and show you the manual release before they go, which in an ice-storm climate is worth two minutes of anybody's time.
A straightforward single or double door replacement is usually most of a day. Add time where the opening needs work, where the track configuration changes, or where an opener is being replaced at the same time.
It is not required on every home, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we will do is quote it as a visible option rather than leave it out, because the garage door is the most common structural failure point in high wind and you should be choosing knowingly.
If the garage is attached, used as work space, or sits under living space, yes, on both temperature and noise. If it is a detached storage garage you enter twice a week, the case is much weaker and we will say so.
We generally do not, because a door supplied by someone else cannot be warranted and cannot confirm the springs shipped with it match the door's actual weight. Mis-sized springs are the most common problem with owner-supplied doors and they wear the whole system.
