Some panel damage affects the structure of the door and needs attention regardless of appearance. A section that is bowed rather than dented has lost stiffness, and it will flex further every cycle until it binds in the track. Cracks around hinge mounting points are the same problem, because that is where load transfers between sections.
A cracked or split section also lets weather in, which in this climate means humidity into an unconditioned garage and, in a bad storm, driven rain. If the crack is along the bottom section, it usually also means the seal is no longer doing its job.
